Grounding using a simple set of strategies to help relieve stress or to help you be in the present. Grounding works by focusing outward on the external world rather than inward toward the self. You can also think of it as “distraction”, “centering”, “looking outward”, or “healthy detachment”.

Nebraska Family Helpline- 1-888-866-8660 or

The Nebraska Family Helpline at (888) 866-8660 makes it easier for families to obtain assistance by providing a single contact point 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Trained Helpline operators screen calls to assess immediate safety needs. Identify the potential level of a behavioral health crisis, make recommendations or referrals to appropriate resources, and help callers connect to emergency resources or providers. The Helpline is supervised by licensed mental health professionals.

Southwest Nebraska LOSS (local outreach to suicide survivors) Team

The mission of a Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team is to reduce suicide bereavement distress of those immediately impacted by providing compassion, support, and providing information about available resources.  This allows for the promotion of hope for the newly bereaved, as they begin the journey of healing. Outcomes include the suicide survivor accessing resources and/or seeking support within months rather than years after the death occurs.
